Aeolian Research journal

The International Society of Aeolian Research (ISAR) and the peer-reviewed journal Aeolian Research share a collaborative relationship dedicated to advancing the field of aeolian studies. ISAR supports Aeolian Research as the leading international platform for disseminating research findings on aeolian processes and related topics. The Society encourages its members to contribute their work to the journal and stay informed about the latest developments in the field.

The community also supports the journal by proposing and contributing to Special Issues and Thematic Collections. For example, some Special Issues have been developed from conferences and workshops, with ongoing efforts to initiate new projects. Additionally, members of the Society contribute to the journal’s editorial activities, with several serving as Associate Editors, thereby supporting both the journal and the broader aeolian research community.

Aeolian Research was originally created to serve as the International Journal on Wind Erosion Research, and now publishes articles on a wide range of aeolian topics such as:

  • Fundamental aeolian processes, including sand and dust entrainment, transport, and deposition of sediment on Earth and other planetary bodies
  • Modeling and field studies of aeolian processes at different scales
  • Instrumentation and measurement techniques in the field and laboratory
  • Practical applications, including environmental impacts and erosion control
  • Aeolian landforms, geomorphology, and paleoenvironments
  • The Dust Cycle including studies of marine, paleo-, and glacial environments, as well as archives of past aeolian processes including marine, lacustrine and ice archives as well as loess

The journal publishes a wide range of article types, including regular articles, review articles, letters, discussions, commentaries, perspectives, special issues, and replication studies. Contributions that support and advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are especially welcome.

To maintain the journal’s high scientific standards, the appointment of Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors is made by the publishers in consultation with ISAR’s Board. Additionally, ISAR contributes to the journal’s news and announcements section, ensuring that its activities and updates reach the broader research community. Also, ISAR suggests and contributes to special issues and thematic collections such as resulting from scientific sessions at international meetings. While ISAR does not bear financial responsibility for the journal, this partnership underscores its commitment to fostering excellence and collaboration in aeolian research.

To further strengthen this collaboration, it is highly encouraged that an Aeolian Research editor serves on the ISAR Board. If this is not possible, the editor is invited to attend ISAR Board meetings as needed to provide updates and maintain alignment between the journal and the Society’s objectives. Furthermore, the ISAR Secretary and Treasurer are responsible for providing an annual update of the Society’s membership list to the journal, ensuring that ISAR members receive access to Aeolian Research as part of their membership benefits.
